For some, who crave basking in the sun on a beach, a ski holiday can seem the opposite of a relaxing getaway. However, escaping to the mountains can do wonders to clear the head away from the chaos of daily life, and keep the whole family entertained. We are passionate that everyone should experience what the mountains have to offer. Here are our top tips on how to make your ski holiday more relaxing:
Book in advance
Availability becomes scarce quickly, especially for the peak weeks, such as Christmas, New Years and February Half-Term. Book early to get the perfect property for you, beat the last-minute booking panic. Once you have your accommodation sorted, you can book your flights, transfers, and all the rest! Use our guides on what to consider when booking, and what to pack, to make sure you have everything sorted well before your flight departs.
Choose your location wisely
Think carefully about the location of your property before you book, and choose somewhere close to all the facilities you’re going to need. Knowing the route to the slopes, whether by gondola or bus, and how you’re going to get to ski school before the 9am meet hits you on the first day, is essential. If you’re not sure about where would be best for you to stay, we can discuss your requirements and point you in the right direction.
Pre-book your Ski passes
Nothing fills us with more dread than thinking of the queues at the lift pass office after a busy changeover. Beat the queues and book your ski passes with us, and we will deliver them to your property free of charge. So, you can hit the snooze button before your lessons the first morning, knowing you have everything sorted.
And your Ski hire
Avoid the mad rush of getting your ski hire too, and pre-order. Most shops offer discount for pre-orders online. Some ski shops will even deliver the kit straight to your door, so you don’t have to waste any skiing time on your first day.
Get the train
If you dread shepherding your group through the airport and into the transfer, then why not consider getting the train. It’s better for the environment, and can be much less hassle. You can get the Eurostar snow train straight from London St Pancras straight to the Alps. With better luggage allowance, the freedom to move around whilst on board, and the relaxation of sitting back and enjoying the views, nothing could be easier.
Self-catering made easy
A self-catering ski holiday doesn’t have to be more hassle. If you want more privacy than you would with hosts, but still don’t want to cook, then consider hiring a private chef to cook for you. Alternatively, Huski offer a great service, delivering oven ready meals straight to your door. There’s no need to cook; you can stick dinner for your whole group straight in the oven and feed everyone with ease. Consider eating in the first night, so you can get an early night and enjoy the first morning on the slopes, and by the next night you can figure out where the best restaurants are and start making reservations.
Plan how you’re going to wind down
If all you need to chill out is a TV, make sure you check out if the property comes with one. Or, if you prefer a bit of luxury, choose a property with pool access or a hot tub. Why not stay in Courchevel 1650, where you can make the most of the facilities at Aquamotion to relax after a hard day of skiing? If you’d rather be near fun-filled post-skiing activities for the kids, then stay near the Olympic centre in Meribel to try out some ice skating, or watch a thrilling ice hockey game. However you like to wind-down, plan before your book how you want to chill out, and book somewhere that lets you do exactly that.
